GRUMMAN F9F-8P COUGAR. Three versions of the F9F have, so far, been converted to a photographic reconnaissance role: the F9F-5 Panther, the F9F-6 Cougar, and the F9F-8 Cougar. The latter aircraft is the one described here. The total time needed to develop this version was some eight months and six days, from the first mock-up stage to the first flight of the prototype on 21st August 1955. In order to save time, and to be able to study the aerodynamic problems involved at the same time that the prototype was building. a standard F9F-8 was modified up to '-P standard and flight tested. It is claimed for this machine that it can fly coast-to-coast across the United States non-stop, and produce a continuous photograph of the whole route, covering a belt nearly ten miles wide.
Salient features: With the exception of the lengthened and oddly-shaped nose section of the fuselage, this aircraft is a standard F9F-8 airframe. This nose contains a battery of semi-automatic cameras, built by Fairchild Camera, Chicago Aerial Industries and Instrument Corporation . The installation of photographic gear made it necessary to remove the normal armament altogether. Tankage is similar to the fighter version, with a similar provision for two 150-gallon droptanks below the wings . The F9F-8P is supersonic in the dive .

GRUMMAN TF-1 TRADER. By removing the submarine hunter-killer gear from the S2F Tracker and using the basic airframe of this series on which to hang the necessary modifications. Grumman have provided the U.S. Navy with a new supply aircraft for its carrier fleet, which has begun to replace the aged Avengers of the Fleet Logistic Air Wings. The TF-1 Trader made its first flight in January 1955 and is already in service with the U.S. Navy; its duties include cargo or passenger carrying. training and utility work. Power units are identical on all models, but in place of the sonobuoys carried in the rear part of the nacelle of the S2F, the TF-1 stows liferafts.
Salient features : A completely new fuselage, broader and deeper, has been designed for this machine, and seats nine passengers in rearward-facing seats. Alternatively a special cage for cargo can be fitted, designed to protect loads against the abnormal stresses of carrier landings . Vertical tail surfaces are the same for all models, but the TF-1 has a tailplane of 4 ft . 1 3/4 in . greater span.Total length is3 in. less than on the S2F. Photograph shows an S2F Tracker of the Royal Canadian Navy.

The fins of the PV-1 bear civil registration N7538; U.S. Navy serial 33202, and the numbers 34626 under the tailplane end plate.
Looking battered and bruised, the PV-1 Ventura awaits delivery to Howard Aero Inc., of Texas, who will convert it into a slick Super-Ventura luxury transport.
AIR CARGO FAIRCHILD C.82A-FA PACKET - One of the surplus U.S.A.F. Troop Carrier Packets has now been bought by the small Mexican company, Guest Aerovias Mexico, S.A. (Guest Airways, Mexico. Ltd.), of Mexico City, which operates L.749 Constellation and DC-4 services to Panama, Miami and Ontario. President is Senhor W. Guest. Staff, 252; cargo. 673,000 ton/km. flown in 1954 and 19.103 passengers carried. CESSNA CH-1A - First picture to be released of the new four-seat Model CH-1A (N5156), now in production at Prospect, Wichita, Kansas. This all-metal helicopter is essentially the same as the first two-seat prototype. the CH-1, which flew in July 1953. In turn, the CH-1 was developed from the Seibel Helicopter Company's S-4A Skyhawk (U.S .Army YH-24) and the S-4B of 1951 - Seibel being absorbed by Cessna in March 1952. Features of the CH-1A include the 360-degree vision "car-type" canopy; high-mounted tail rotor, and the nose-siting of t he 260-h .p. Continental FSO-470-A flat-six, aircooled motor. The FSO-470-A engine is supercharged to provide 260 h.p. from sea-level to 10,000 ft . at an a.u.w. of 3.000 lb., with cruise of 100-120 mp.h ., and range 290 miles . Rotor diameter 35 ft ., length (overall) 42 ft. 8 in .
Vickers Vanguard
The second prototype Vickers-Supermarine N.113, serial WT859 will be seen at Farnborough. Power is provided by two late-model Rolls-Royce Avons.
PIAGGIO P.136. The Piaggio P.136 has been produced, so far, in three different versions. The standard type, in production for the Italian Air Force as an air-sea rescue machine, is being built at Finale-degura, one of the three Piaggio plants in Italy. Fourteen training and reconnaissance P.136s have already been delivered . First flight of the prototype took place late in 1945. After the certification tests had been completed in 1949, one machine was ordered by the Italian Government, and after testing it, they ordered the fourteen referred to above in 1950. Some three years later, the manufacturing licence for the United States was acquired by the Royal Aircraft Corporation of Milwaukee, who are building two civil versions, the P.136L and P. 136L-1. See below for differences. The American version goes by the name of Royal Gull .

THE All-YELLOW "Yellow Jacket" is a single-seat sportsplane designed and built by the brothers Bruce and Gilbert Pitt of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since this photograph was taken, "bullet" cowls have been added to streamline the jutting four cylinders of the 85-h.p . Continental C-85-8 motor. The balanced proportions of the overall design belie the dimensions - span 14 ft. and length 19 ft . The wingtips and tail assembly have chord-wise black stripes in imitation of the "Yellow Jacket" - a trans-Atlantic cousin to our own British picnic wasp. The Pitt Yellow Jacket prototype (N5745N-exp'l.) has clocked 150 m.p.h . and cruises comfortably at 130 m.p.h.
На базе Latecoere 298 был создан многоцелевой самолет корабельного базирования Latecoere 299, построенный, правда, лишь в двух экземплярах.
An almost unknown type was the Latecoere 299 torpedo-bomber.
