The RAF's first jet unit was 616 Squadron, formed at Mansion with Meteor F.IIIs in December 1945.
Gp Capt H. J. Wilson and Eric Greenwood face the press after their record breaking flights of November 7, 1945.
Originally a Meteor F.III, EE454 was modified to F.4 standard, but without armament, and given a high gloss finish for the record attempt.
